Joe and I rode out on our motorcycles to Schlitz Audubon during the unseasonably warm Sunday to walk through the fallen leaves and check out the view from the observation tower. Unfortunately, we arrived only an hour before closing, and the gate around the tower was locked.
That of course didn’t stop Joe from scaling the eight-foot tall solid wooden fence. I nearly gave up on the process, then an older woman on a walk with two canes supporting her said, “I used to love climbing up there back when I could,” and I decided I was too able bodied not to break in and get to the top of the tower. With a little help (I was pretty much dead lifted by one arm), I was up and over the fence as well.
